If you thought last night would at least delay the naysayers, think again.

Some jagoff was just trashing him on ESPN just now, saying that anyone who actually knows football could tell that PFM was just as bad last night as against Baltimore, and it was just part of a pattern that says he's done.

Oh-kay.

I think he might be "done", depending on what done means.  His velocity is shot.  Is accuracy is way down.  Just watch Brady throw a laser, and IIRC, he is one year younger than 5 Head.

That does not mean however, that it is time to retire or bench him.  He wins games with his head, not his arm.  He does need a solid O-line and a good, if not great running game.  There are QBs all over this league who don't own lasers for throwing arms.  And ESPN and the rest can naysay all they want; but the fact of the matter is with 2:30 left in the game and down by a TD, ol' noodle arm led them 80 yards for a tying TD on the strength of his passing game and football smarts.

Here is a pretty good take, in my opinion, on the whole thing.  I agree with him for the most part.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/sing-of-arms-and-the-man-why-the-broncos-cant-keep-leaning-on-peyton-manning/

Couple of highlights:

By the end of last night’s game with the Chiefs, though, it was impossible to say the easy thing and reduce Manning down to an on/off switch. He’d managed to nearly throw the game away and then brought the Broncos back with what might be the last great comeback drive of his career before tagging in Andy Reid to finish off Kansas City.

If you’re working off the premise that Manning is finished because his arm is zapped and he’s thrown two pick-sixes in two games, that is a flawed conclusion. I don’t think either of those interceptions should be chalked up to Manning’s arm strength. The pick-six by Jimmy Smith last week actually would have been an easier interception if Manning had thrown the ball harder, because Smith would have been able to get a clean jump on the throw. Instead, because the throw was late, Smith had to delay his jump.

A couple of things: first, go back and look at that last TD throw to Sanders. When the Chiefs' pass rushers were gassed and the o-line could actually protect Manning, he was throwing well, and that pass to Sanders was a pinpoint perfect throw on a frozen rope. Like I said earlier as well, people forget that the knock on PFM coming out of college was his arm strength. He's not Elway, never has been. And his arm has never recovered from the neck surgeries. But when he has time to throw like he had in 2013, he throws like he did in 2013. Yeah, he's old, but if you want to say his arm is shot, you have to say it was shot in 2013.

Second, re: Uggs. Dude rarely if ever throws deep. Why? Because his arm is weakening as well. The Pats' offense is dink and dunk, with fade routes mixed in. Hardly a taxing regimen on the arm. But it doesn't matter because the offense is built around Brady's strength and weaknesses, instead trying to make Uggs into something he's not. Plus he has Gronk. Fucking Gronk. He's awesome. Why does he have to be a Patriot?

Finally.

NFL Live just broke down the data - when PFM is under center, he is pressured earlier, his sacks go way up, his completion percentage goes way down, and his yards per completion is tiny.  When he was in shotgun last night, all of his numbers went back up closer to what they were at the beginning of last year.

I have no idea why most of 'the experts' haven't seen this, too.

Yep.  Just watched it.  It was a 25-30 yard frozen rope.  From the gun, he is able to step into his throws and they have good velocity.

So the ball is in Kubes court.  I said during the game last night that Peyton has never been, nor ever will be Jake Plummer.  Kubes offense needs a Russell Wilson or a Cam Newton; not a Peyton Manning.  I don't know why they can't run out of the gun though.  Manning just isn't as effective under center.

I can't imagine Kubes would be stubborn/dumb enough to not adjust his offense to what works.

Maybe 10% of the plays can be under center, but my concern with even that is that he's getting hit more than he should be.

In 2001, 5 Head got sacked 29 times; a career high.  At the current rate, he is headed for 56.  Granted, he won't get sacked that much, but it is alarming.

Yeah, and not just the sacks, but he's getting hit.  Not was Kubes said he wanted in keeping PFM fresh for Dec.  I have to watch again, but I wasn't initially thrilled even with the interior of the line, but you got Mathis making his second start with no prep, and a center in his second game.  But, FPM was getting killed by the tackles.  It may get better, but .....

That play where PFM was under center, Sambrailo blocked the outside guy instead of the inside guy, and Justin Houston got a free sack on PFM was exactly why we don't want to see PFM under center.  I think Houston literally only had to take 4 steps and he had a sack.

Peyton Manning needs 284 passing yards to break Brett Favre’s career record for passing yardage.

Brett Favre: 71,838 yards

Peyton Manning: 71,555 yards

There are a lot of donk fans pilling Peyton Manning while he's down.

Sure, we haven't won a Super Bowl with him as our QB, but we've had some pretty damn good seasons.

That said, I've always thought his tenure in Denver would be judged by if he brought another Super Bowl trophy to Denver and that hasn't happened.

It's apparent to me that Elway didn't really want Peyton Manning back this season, but did it anyway.

If that's the case, they should have let him go at the end of last season and started the Brock Osweiler Era at the start of the season as bringing in Kubiak's offense with Peyton Manning at QB is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Elway could have saved $14 million and spent it elsewhere.

Well, Elway talked him into coming here, so maybe he felt like he owed him one last season and a chance to go out with a bang.

Instead of a whimper.

I think Osweiler is going to surprise a lot of people.

Yep I sure wish Elway listened to me about moving on in offseason. I figured new system peanut brittle body would fail. Of course alot of fans still think if our OL was alot better PFM would be as well. I think he'd only be slightly better now.

That's nonsense that john didnt want peyton back.  John told peyton there were going to be changes for the future of the franchise and that he was more than welcome to be a part of it.  He told him to take some time  off before he made a decision about staying with broncos.

Elway: "We're hiring a coach whose system doesn't match your skill set in any way, oh yeah....you need to take a pay cut for half your salary (eventually negotiated to $14 million)....take your time making a decision".

Yep....Elway's hand were kind of tied.

He is a HOF QB himself and he knows the protocol for how HOF QBs should be treated at the end of their careers.

If Elway had his druthers, I bet he would have gone with Osweiler and let Manning walk.

Now the Belicock would have thrown Manning into a wood chipper and went with Osweiler, as empathy isn't a word in his vocabulary.

Too much respect if you ask me with the issues Manning had at 39. Numb fingers zero mobility weak arm those things will get better at 39/40 not good business sense in this scenerio. Without the D playing the way we did  first 7 games we'd be talking and thinking draft right now.

Even though Manning looked spent down the stretch last season, he still had 4,727 passing yards and 39 TDs and Denver won 12 games and the division.

It's kind of hard to rationalize getting rid of a QB that had those numbers and wins....especially a beloved all-time great QB.

Elway was stuck and kind of had to bring him back....if he didn't and Osweiler lead the team to a 7-9 record, he'd have egg on his face.
